Fishing is permitted at the Ben Gill Park pond, strictly on a catch and release basis.

Texas Parks and Wildlife's Neighborhood Fishin' Program (January-February only)


Terrell families are invited to enjoy fishing at Ben Gill Park! The pond will be stocked with approximately 1,000 rainbow trout (9 to 12 inches long) through Texas Parks and Wildlife's Neighborhood Fishin' Program. No registration is required, just show up & fish!

  • Participants must bring their own fishing gear & bait
  • Bring snacks, drinks & chairs
  • Public restrooms available
  • This event is rain or shine

Ben Gill Park is one of over 150 sites statewide, including 19 designated neighborhood fishing lakes in 10 urban areas of Texas, that participate in trout fishing during the months of January and February.

The following regulations apply to Neighborhood Fishin' lakes.

License Requirements

Gear Restrictions

  • Fish with pole and line only. This means a rod & reel, fly rod, or cane pole.
  • No more than two fishing poles per person.
  • Trotlines, jug lines, fish traps, seines, cast nets, bows and spears are not allowed in Neighborhood Fishing' lakes.

Bag Limits

  • Each person fishing is entitled to their own daily bag limit.
  • Daily bag limit of 5 (rainbow trout only) all other fish species is catch and release only

Stocking dates and event dates are tentative and contingent on availability of fish and staff


All other fishing outside of rainbow trout during January and February is catch and release.
